Statement Attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on the Death of King Norodom Sihanouk
The Secretary-General expresses his deep condolences to the Royal family, Government and people of Cambodia on the passing of Cambodia's former monarch, King Norodom Sihanouk. The Secretary-General acknowledges King Sihanouk's long dedication to his country and his legacy as a unifying national leader who is revered by Cambodians and respected internationally.
The Secretary-General also hopes that the legacy of the former King will allow Cambodia to advance the national healing process, including through continued commitment to justice.

The United Nations Country Team in Cambodia received the news of the death of Preah Karuna Preah Bat Sâmdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk Preahmâhaviraksat with profound sorrow.
For many decades the King-Father has been a key figure in Cambodia’s engagement with the international community, and a true advocate for the country’s development. Our hearts are with Preah Karuna Preah Bat Sâmdach Preah Bâromneath Norodom Sihamoni of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Royal family and Royal Government, and with all Cambodian people at this sad moment.
