PATH, WFP, and IRD partner to enhance food assistance, address malnutrition in Cambodia E-mail

PATH, the UN World Food Programme (WFP), and the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) announced today a three-way partnership to test the impact of fortifying the rice distributed through food assistance programmes in Cambodia using PATH’s Ultra Rice® fortification technology, a means for bridging micronutrient deficiencies and preventing malnutrition in rice-consuming communities.

Twenty first Human Case of Avian Influenza H5N1 in Cambodia E-mail

Phnom Penh, 28 May 2012

The Ministry of Health (MoH) of the Kingdom of Cambodia wishes to advise members of the public that a 10 years old female from Pring Village, Toul Sala Commune, Bosedth District, Kampong Speu Province has been confirmed by the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge on 26th May 2012 with H5N1 influenza. She developed symptoms on 20th May 2012 and after initial treatment at the village was eventually admitted to Kantha Bopha Hospital on 25th May 2012 with symptoms of fever and shortness of breath. Unfortunately, despite intensive medical care, she died on 27th May 2012. There is evidence of recent deaths among poultry in the village and the patient prepared sick chicken for food prior to becoming sick.

The girl is the twenty first people in Cambodia to become infected with H5N1 virus, the third person this year and the nineteenth person to die from complications of the disease. Of all the twenty one cases, 14 were children under 14, and fourteen of the twenty one confirmed cases occurred in females.

Cambodia supports South Sudan peacekeeping efforts E-mail


Phnom Penh, 11 April 2012

Cambodian Military Police Company number 702 and Hospital Level 2 Company number 801 will depart Cambodia on Monday 16 April on a peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.

They are among the 153 peacekeepers Cambodia will send to South Sudan this year. To date, 839 Cambodian troops have completed peacekeeping missions, and 222 are currently on mission.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) of the Kingdom of Cambodia wishes to advise members of the public that a 6 year old female from Kbal Koh Village, Ampiltuek Commune, Kampong Trolach District, Kampong Chhnang Province has been confirmed by the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge on 30th March 2012 with H5N1 influenza. She developed symptoms on 22nd March and after initial treatment at the village was eventually admitted to Kantha Bopha Hospital in Phnom Penh on 28th March. She passed away on 30 March. There are reports that the patient had contact with sick or dead poultry prior to becoming sick.

Young Cambodian women tell their stories, inspire others E-mail

The inspiring stories of women and girls who have changed their lives or made a difference in their communities are being showcased this International Women’s Day thanks to a partnership between the United Nations and a network of young women.

Launched today, a blog and facebook page called “New Waves” linked to the Loy9 (UNDP/ BBC Media Action) multimedia campaign, has published the first of what is hoped to be many stories submitted from across Cambodia, telling the stories of women and girls who have created positive change in their lives and communities.
