About UNDP
UNDP is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and
connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help
people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries,
working with them on their own solutions to global and national
development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on
the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.
About UNDP Cambodia
UNDP aims to enhance government’s ability to deliver public services to
the population in an efficient, effective, equitable and accountable
manner, to consolidate a participatory democracy with a responsible
civil society and to create an enabling environment for inclusive
growth, private sector development and sustainable use of natural
resources.

UNDP has been present in Cambodia for 50 years. It began its
operations in Cambodia in 1958 and continued until 1975. UNDP resumed
operations in Cambodia in a limited capacity in 1980, contributing to
emergency relief operations. UNDP reestablished its offices in Phnom
Penh in 1994 with the signature of the SBBA.
UNDP supports the people of Cambodia as they face new challenges
towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
Critical challenges include: (i) the diversification of growth and the
translation of growth into the reduction of poverty and inequalities in
rural areas; (ii) sustainable and participatory management of natural
resources that represent primary assets for the poor (including oil and
gas, arable land, forestry and fisheries) and (iii) strengthening
participatory democracy and good governance.
UNDP supports Cambodia in achieving a number of priority goals and targets of the National Strategic Development Plan, 2006-2010 (NSDP)
in the fields of governance reforms, political processes (support to
the National Election Commission and the Parliament), gender equity,
environmental sustainability and rural energy, demining, and private
sector development.
UNDP operates within the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). In 2006, UNDP signed a new Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP)
with the Royal Government of Cambodia that covers the areas of
state-building and democratic governance, poverty reduction and energy
and environment. Since 2002, UNDP has delivered US$388,864,267 of
development assistance to Cambodia focusing mainly on recovery and
governance.
All UNDP activities are undertaken in close collaboration with the
Government, sister UN agencies and other development stakeholders.
Partnerships with UK/DFID, Sweden/SIDA, Australia, the European Union,
Japan, and Canada, have been critical to achieve results.
