The Insights for Action Initiative (IFA) is a policy analysis and innovation unit within UNDP. It was created in response to a request by Cambodia’s Prime Minister, His Excellency Samdech Hun Sen, after he met with Dr. Hafiz Pasha, then-UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific in 2004. The Prime Minister asked that UNDP provide fresh ideas to help implement the Rectangular Strategy, particularly for achieving further substantial progress towards the CMDGs and improved human wellbeing in Cambodia.
IFA generates practical knowledge and cutting-edge options to help Cambodia achieve the Government’s development vision, known as the Rectangular Strategy on Growth, Employment, Equity and Efficiency. It also aims to catalyze decisions and actions for the rapid and effective implementation of the National Strategic Development Plan, which is designed to realize major components of the Rectangular Strategy within the period 2006-2010. Special focus is given to those aspects of the plan with the greatest scope for achieving rapid progress toward the Cambodia Millennium Development Goals (CMDGs) and to help achieve higher growth, employment, equity and efficiency. IFA has three components: Knowledge Generation, Knowledge Sharing and Knowledge into Action.
IFA works mainly in the areas of economic governance, extractive industries and human development, as well as in emerging areas. IFA focuses on supporting the Government’s implementation of the NSDP and Rectangular Strategy to achieve the CMDGs. |
