National Assembly elections were held in Cambodia on 27 July 2003, the third democratic election since the signing of the Paris Peace Agreement in 1991. Several national and international observer groups have hailed the election as a success, primarily because of muchreduced violence leading up to the Election Day and widespread respect for the secrecy of the ballot. Real improvements were made both technically and with regard to the more open and balanced access to the media by all political players.
UNDP support to the Royal Government of Cambodia's democratic governance reforms mainly focuses on providing development management advisory services to strengthen the capacity of key governing institutions, including areas related to democratic governance, public administration, the parliamentary system and the judiciary. The relevant activities were included in the following project documents, signed by the RGC and UNDP.
