Remarks by Selva Ramachandran UNDP's North East Asia Division Chief at Cambodia's Rio+20 National Dialogue "Towards United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development" 27-28 March 2012 Your Excellency Dr. Mok Mareth, Senior Minister and Minister of Environment Excellencies, Development Partners, Honourable guests, Ladies and Gentlemen On behalf of United Nations Development Program (UNDP), I am honored to have been asked to provide welcome remarks at this National Dialogue on Rio+20 on Sustainable Development, which has been prepared and organized by the Ministry of Environment, with the assistance of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and UNDP. Today’s dialogue represents the Royal Government of Cambodia’s high political commitment to sustainable development and to securing the goals of the Rio+20 Summit , of which themes are the Green Economy in the context of Sustainable Development and Poverty Eradication and the Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development (IFSD).

Remarks by Country Director Elena Tischenko at National Preparatory Meeting for the National Report on Sustainable Development “Toward Rio+20 United Nations Conference” 12 March 2012 Your Excellency Dr. Mok Mareth, Senior Minister of the Ministry of Environment Excellencies, Development Partners, Honourable guests,Ladies and Gentlemen, First of all, I would like to congratulate the Ministry of Environment for their leadership in organizing this important event. It is my privilege to be here this morning to participate in the opening session of the National Preparatory Meeting for the National Report on Sustainable Development “Toward Rio+20 United Nations Conference”. This meeting will provide an opportunity for discussion among the Inter-Ministerial Green Growth Working Group, Development Partners, and stakeholders to exchange ideas about the Rio+20 preparatory process and requirements and agree on the scope and preparatory plan for the National Report.

A:        Young people all over the world, and especially in countries with young population like Cambodia, are important because of the vast contributions that they can make to the development of the country. They can help shape priorities and policies for Cambodia’s future and be part of their implementation.

Remarks by Elena Tischenko UNDP Country Director Workshop on Mainstreaming Community Based Adaptation into Sub-National Level Planning 22 December 2011 Excellency Leng Vy Director General, Directorate General of Local Administration, Ministry of Interior. Ms. Kristina Kuhnel, Head of Development Cooperation, Embassy of   Sweden.   Excellencies, development partners, honourable guests, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to warmly welcome and thank you all for participation in this National Workshop on Mainstreaming Community Based Adaptation into Sub-national Level Planning. I was told we have today here representatives from 19 provinces which is more than half of the country. This is a good evidence of growing commitment and involvement of communities and authorities into building Cambodia resilient to climate change. We hope this workshop will provide “an interactive space” among project stakeholders to facilitate learning and maximize synergies among different initiatives in supporting climate change adaptation and linking local level adaptation initiatives into sub-national and national level planning.
