Partnerships

The United Nations Development Programme is one of 23 UN agencies, funds and programmes operating in Cambodia under the umbrella of the UN Resident Coordinator system, which works to ensure that UN activities complement each other and do not overlap.

UNDP works in partnership with the Royal Government of Cambodia, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, community-based organizations, multilateral aid agencies, bilateral donors and private firms. Most of its development assistance is implemented by national entities such as the Council for Development of Cambodia, Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, and ministries. At present, UNDP directly implements three projects each under Democratic Governance, Poverty Reduction, and Environment and Energy programmatic areas, with the overarching aim to support the progress towards the Cambodian Millennium Development Goals.

Funds come from three main sources: UNDP’s central budget (about USD$6 million a year), donor countries (US$14 to US$20 million a year) and funds specific to certain projects. They include projects under the Global Environment Facility, a special partnership that channels funds into small-scale initiatives to help address global problems, such as climate change, and improve livelihood for poor people in Cambodia.
