April 25th is World Malaria Day. This deadly sickness causes according to the up to 660 000 deaths every year. Cambodia and malaria affected population worldwide is facing an emerging threat in the form of malarial parasites developing resistance to treatment. Dedicated work of volunteer village malaria workers proves to be essential to prevent resistant malaria spreading from Cambodia to Africa and other regions.

Phnom Penh: Over sixty young Cambodians from different youth organizations, various provinces, ethnics and minorities met on Tuesday April 23rd to discuss future of their country.

Youth consultation are part of a larger effort to gather the priorities of people from every corner of the world and help build a collective vision that will be used directly by the United Nations and World Leaders to plan a new development agenda launching in 2015, following the legacy of Millennium Development Goals. What is the future young Cambodians want for themselves and their country?

Youth has the power, to create, motivate and change their societies. This is the first of the series of interviews with inspiring youth, who not only care, but also take action.
Kimlay Leav is 23 years old, speaks perfect English, majors in Economics and International Relations, is an appointed member of the UN Youth Advisory Panel, volunteers his free time in Khmer youth NGO, has always a big smile on his face and is determined to work and contribute to his society. “Youth shouldn’t wait until they graduate from school in order to become active,” Kimlay says.
